What is an Orifice Flange Union?

An Orifice Flange Union is a specialized assembly used in piping systems to measure the flow rate of fluids. It consists of a pair of flanges with a machined orifice plate sandwiched between them. The orifice plate has a precise, concentric hole that creates a pressure drop across the plate as fluid flows through it. This pressure differential is measured by pressure taps located on either side of the orifice plate, allowing for the calculation of the fluid flow rate. Orifice Flange Unions are commonly used in industrial applications, such as in the oil and gas, chemical processing, and power generation sectors, due to their accuracy, reliability, and ease of maintenance.

Types of Orifice Flange Union

Orifice Flange Unions come in different types to suit various piping needs. Weld Neck Orifice Flange Unions are ideal for high-pressure applications, offering strong weld joints and precise flow alignment. Slip On Orifice Flange Unions are easier to install and are commonly used in low to medium pressure systems. Both types include pressure tapping points and ensure accurate flow measurement when paired with orifice plates.

Weld Neck Orifice Flange Unions are used in high-pressure pipelines, offering strong welded connections and precise alignment for accurate flow measurement with minimal pressure loss.

Slip On Orifice Flange Unions are easy to install and ideal for low to medium pressure systems. They provide reliable flow measurement while simplifying alignment and maintenance in pipelines.
